LUMION

The Swiss artist Marguerite Hersberger designed a comprehensive art concept for the airport center "LUMION" in Geneva

Samuelis Baumgarte Art Consulting realized an art in architecture project with a light and color wall installation that interprets the "LUMION" artistically and clearly positions it at the airport in Geneva.

The "LUMION" office building is a solitaire, ie it stands like a single set of gemstones in a park-like setting across from Geneva International Airport. The elongated building, which extends horizontally, is symmetrical. The entrance area in the middle of the entire building forms one transparent building structure and is framed by the non-transparent office wings. The vertical lights in the middle of the building break up the horizontal lines of the architecture.

With the colored columns of light, not only the center becomes visible, the entrance areas are also emphasized and the transparent architecture is brought into a new light. The colored lights make orientation easier. The luminous primary colors red-yellow-blue are placed approx. 10 cm behind the glass panes and spread over all floors. Due to their conception, they shine outwards, on the sides and in the interior.

They are like the sparkle of a cut gemstone, because the lights are always perceived differently depending on the viewer's position. The top and bottom views of the balustrades are just as important as the front and back. In the interior, on the different floors, the gray concrete columns in the middle of the room are painted in strong colors. These colors respond to the different lights on the window front. At the same time, these colored columns are a distinguishing feature of the respective floor.

The different colored lights of the transparent building are additionally emphasized on the outer facade by two 13 meter high light columns in a symmetrical arrangement to the left and right of the central risalite. Even during the day, the blue lights form a colored band that is visible from afar. The office facades facing the entrance shine through their painting in a sunny yellow. This increase in colors gives not only the entrance but the whole building a new additional accent.

The unmistakable colored light rooms by Marguerite Hersberger can be seen in the headquarters of Allianz AG in Leipzig, AXA in Frankfurt am Main, Dresdner Bank in Dresden, Sachsenmilch AG in Dresden and Commerzbank Schweiz in Zurich.
