HARTING European Distribution Center (EDC)

Translucency inspires Distribution

With the new Harting European Distribution Center (EDC), the traditional company from Espelkamp is setting new standards. Up to 10,000 parcels are sent from the newly built distribution center around the world every day. The implementation of the latest technology guarantees future-oriented logistics.

The entrance hall is the first point of contact for employees and visitors to the EDC, which won the iF DESIGN AWARD 2021. Samuelis Baumgarte Art Consulting has developed a concept for artistic design in close cooperation with the company management. The selected translucent sculpture by the Spanish artist David Magán not only stands for the transparency of the Espelkamp company, but also for the global network that sets the most modern standards in logistics and production in the 21st century. The selected sculpture by David Magán floods the entrance hall of the EDC with multifaceted colors as soon as light penetrates its transparent surface. With his sculptures and installations, the artist not only examines the interaction between architecture and the refraction of light, but they also permanently change their colourfulness depending on the location of the viewer and the constructive possibilities of the structure.

Magán's geometric modules made of acrylic or glass are dynamic structures that adapt to different architectural spaces, both indoors and outdoors. Specially designed for the Harting EDC, the work captivates with its artistic interpretation of the company's global activities and, thanks to its translucency, makes the imagined globe appear to be floating.
